BIO

G. M. obtained her PhD in Experimental Psychology, Linguistics and Neuroscience at the University of Milano-Bicocca in 2013 followed by a postdoctoral position since 2014. Her main interest concerns how emotions are represented and processed in the human brain and she investigates these questions with multiple techniques ranging from behavioural experiments with healthy and clinical populations to researches with neuroimaging techniques as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation combined with Electroencephalography (TMS-EEG) and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). This multi-method approach allows to explore the neural correlates of cognitive functions from different perspectives, looking at the localization of functional and dysfunctional processes in the brain considering also the complexity of networks and connections.

Her main ongoing research aims at investigating the physiology and pathology of visual awareness for emotional stimuli by means of TMS-EEG experiments with healthy participants and behavioural evaluation of patients with Huntington’s disease and Schizophrenia.

She is also interested in studying eating disorders. In collaboration with Psychiatry Units she applies her expertise with non-invasive brain stimulation to investigate the possibility to modulate implicit attitudes towards food and body image in healthy populations and patients with eating disorders.
